Capital Area Sportsmen for Youth Field Day
The Capital Area Sportsmen for Youth will hold its
17th Annual Youth Field
Day on Saturday, June 20, 2008 from 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM. Boys and Girls aged 8
through 16 are invited to attend this free, fun-packed event, rain or shine.
Field Day will be hosted by the Harrisburg Hunters’ and Anglers’ Association,
Each participant will have the opportunity to learn about topics such as conservation, primitive camping, trapping and predator calling, fur taking, taxidermy, dog training, wildlife rehabilitation and outdoor safety. The Wild Turkey Federation will also be showing a demonstration. There will be representatives from the Pennsylvania Game Commission and the Pennsylvania State Police.
In addition each youth will have the opportunity to participant in a wide variety of activities including: archery, fishing, fly tying, closely supervised shooting events, boating safety, canoeing and an obstacle course. Also, a doe hunt will be given away to one lucky child.
The hunt is being sponsored by Vern Gessner of “Mt. Top Whitetail,” a game preserve located in Pillow. Swope’s taxidermy will provide mounting and meat processing. In all, the package will be worth approximately $1,200.00 and will be given away free to a child who has his or her parent’s permission, participates in the event and enters the drawing. Rules will be provided on the day of the event and the winning name will be drawn at random.
Necessary equipment will be provided at each station. Each participant will receive a t-shirt, hat lunch and goody bag. Door prizes are given away also.
As with every event sponsored by various sportsmen’s organizations, safety is the #1 priority. Responsible, knowledgeable adults closely supervise each and every activity. Radio and cellular communications are at every station. Every precaution is taken to ensure that each Youth Field Day participant integrates ethical outdoor conduct with having a good time.
